1. Thursday, April 7, 2016! "MTOPP is Up on the Wall at the Brooklyn Museum in the Agitprop! show."

Note:

On November 17, 2015, BAN Brooklyn Anti-Gentrification Network, that MTOPP is apart of, did a demonstration against The Brooklyn Museum, because they were hosting a Real Estate Summit, where Borough President Eric Adams, was pushing for the sale of Brooklyn to big time developers.

As a result of this push back, artist of the Agitprop!, show that was opening up in December at the Museum, also pushed back and demanded that space be provided for organizations that were currently fighting Gentrification Displacement be apart of the art Wall Exhibition. Because of this great push back the Museum agreed to provide space on the wall and a day of anti-gentification and displacement events on Sunday, July 10, 2016.

The wall itself is called the "A Monument to Anti-Displacement Organizing" and it contains vital information concerning rezonings and its relationship to gentrification and displacement in communities of color. There is also a dramatic video which addresses MTOPP's struggle, which shows politicians being booed, the people really showing up at community boards, and an arrest scene. On the Wall itself there are graphs with information, questionnaires people can do and actions that people can take to support the cause; signing an hands-on petition; calling up the Mayor; making a donation etc...

2.Tuesday, April 12, 2016, 7 pm. ! "The ULURP Committee Meeting"

Location: Across the street from 890 Nostrand Ave, at the Carrol Gardens Community Center

Note:

This is the Community Board 9's land use committee, which has been compromised with all Borough President Eric Adams supporters. The Chairman of the Board, Demetirus Lawrence, hand picked the members and made sure that there were 14 board members and only 5 residents on this committee. He was caught on tape stating he did this so that the board members would always be in control of the votes.

Now at this meeting they are going to allow PLGNA to present a Study that had no community input and was supported and paid for by Borough President Eric Adams. They are going to say what a great study it is and how we need to have something to push back against the Department of City Planning study. They are also going to say that this study focuses on the "Creation of Affordable housing".

However, this is the strategies that politicians and the Department of City Planning used to sabotage resistance. They make people work on a plan instead of organizing and educating to stop the Department City Planning study and when everything is all over. The Community's Study gets thrown in the garbage and the Department of City Planning "Study" becomes law.

They will also present very well chosen words to describe their secret meeting with the Department of City Planning, refusing to be honest and to just lie about what can happen. They will say, we need to be "sitting at the table" otherwise the Department of City Planning can do what they want and we will get nothing. As if sitting at the table got any community anything!

3.Wednesday, April 13, 2016, 7 p.m. ! "MTOPP Meeting"

Location: 89 Sterling St.

4.Tuesday, April 26, 2016, 7 p.m. ! "CB9 Community Board Meeting"

Location: MS 61, 400 Empire Blvd

Note:

There are several thing amiss regarding Community Board 9, that will make this an interesting meeting.

1. Demetrius Lawrence the chairman of CB9, last month declared the Search Committee that was looking for a new District Manger as null and void, because their 13 meetings almost never had quorum, so it in validates the process.

However, what was clear is that he did it because Carmen Martinez a known ally of Borough President, was not apart of the final three candidates that the board has to choose from. This information was found out afterwards when the New York Post did an article and MTOPP got the minutes of the Search Committee, where Carmen only received on positive vote out of six. So now Demetirus is going to try to create a whole new Search Committee, with Carmen Martinez known allies to ensure her name is apart of the final three.

2. Demetirus Lawrence has been trying to get a proposal for a triangle of land that sits next to Western Beef to be converted into a real estate block, giving developers the ability to buy it and extend Western Beef property line, to enable them to get a rezoning to build a sky riser.

Demetrius has been trying to get this proposal to be presented and approved by the board. However, there has been a lot controversy surrounding this proposal and the transportation committee, which is suppose to be overseeing this issue.

First, the Chairman of the Transportation committee, Tim Thomas a known White male racist, was removed in January 2016, because of fabricating a vote and cursing out his board members.

Second instead of the Chairman of the board assigning a new chairperson he has been chairing this committee himself, which is in direct violation of CB9's bylaws.

Third, despite the transportation committee not voting on this proposal, its members still having tons of questions that haven't been answered or evidence presented and Demetrius is making the promise that there will be no vote at the general board meeting, Demetrius Lawrence is again trying to present this issue to the full board and have them take a vote.

Fourth, PLGNA, based upon what happens at the ULURP committee on April 12, 2016, will try to get their study presented to the full board and request approval from the board for it. Of course there will be great opposition to this considering that PLGNA study includes large parts of the community in which they have no jurisdiction over and no community support from other neighborhood organizations and block associations. Nor did they conduct any community outreach or forums to create this study. This study is a private study, created by a private entity and now they want to present it to the Department of City Planning as "alternative" to what the Department of City Planning wants. Also their study is about again "creating" affordable housing, which mean increase density and sky rise development in what is already the densest populated area in Brooklyn. 96% of our land mass is Residential compared to 55% for the rest of Brooklyn! And of course these "affordable" units come with luxury development, which will cause a wave of displacement!.
